About The Artist & Work

ABOUT
The Cool Universe of Storm Ritter

Welcome to the official online store and studio of surrealist artist, Storm Ritter. We hope your spirit is sparked and thank you for exploring her stories, photo galleries and creative work.

Collecting fine art is not only enterprisingly fruitful, but more importantly, soul fulfilling. Storm encourages artist-to-client communication when sending work to new homes, and in this digital age, kind human connection is indeed a priority. Every sold artifact of fine art and fashion shares a story that becomes yours to continue. Since her first storefront in 2015, she has placed an emphasis on creating accessibility in art while elevating her bodies of work.

Who is Storm Ritter?

She's got the power, to be the power. An interoceptive thinker and eccentric storyteller at heart, Storm is an ambidextrous painter with roots in mysticism, theatrics and music. Simultaneously, she's an entrepreneur with a bewitching focus on both studio art and sales accessibility. Storm's business and branding is founded by old school authenticity, intellectual curiosity, innate spirituality and of course, kindness. Over thirteen years in art production, retail, gallery and fine art industries, Storm now exclusively offers her work and services from her East Village Private Studio, seasonal pop-up exhibitions, and online commerce.

Storm Ritter's paintings birth a sense of escapism and enlightenment. As an ambidextrous painter, Storm works in harmony with the sounds of her surroundings, stimulating emotions and mental musings when creating in studio. In the past years, she has produced solo show collections focusing on visually immersive chapters of The Cool People, her signature storytellers. With an array of mediums and aesthetics, her esoteric style and old world techniques remain consistent. View the archive of fine art paintings and learn about her process.

"I paint to fulfill my cup first, if in reverse, that cup's filled with procecco, masquerading as champagne."

The Cool People have become Storm Ritter's iconography, acting as surrealist storytellers, spiritual symbols and empowering silhouettes in her fine art paintings, illustrations, fashion collections, merchandise, custom designs and artist branding. With their identifiable divine lines through their heads and elongated forms, they are transformational souls, and unmistakably, universal friends. What's it like to create for yourself and for business?

STORM: I’ve worn many hats for years, but I never compromise my artistry for consumers or sales. I’ve done that, and it doesn’t work, but I do spend equal time on business as art, to make a living. I’m the agent for every element of Storm Ritter, so I step outside of myself and switch personas to market my enterprise. The artist makes decisions for art. The entrepreneur makes decisions for business. Together, they fight. So I have to switch hats to become the creative director, conceptualizing a vision from what’s been created and planned. Then comes the editor hat, for cut-throat choices, despite the other’s input. Critique is indispensable, but it’s just me, so I’ve built a thick skin when I take on roles.

I still have chutzpah to keep knocking on doors, making this a ceaseless cycle. The artist and the entrepreneur have opened countless profitable doors, and as the creative director, it’s taxing to equally manage so many. And as the editor, I have to be cold-blooded to close perfectly good doors, but never lock them. I really need more real people to work the doors.

The archives of work include fine art, scenic work, fashion design, solo show exhibitions, retail storefronts and private studios. Explore the collections and past projects, all potential commerce, commission, and booking references.

Where is Storm Ritter Located?

Since 2024, Storm Ritter is located at her by-appointment East Village Private Studio in downtown New York City. The stylistically infused spaces offer fine art viewing, behind the scenes studio work, scheduled talks and art workshops. Before this residency, Storm primarily operated her business from her West Village Private Studio while launching three Storm Ritter Studio x Gallery brick-and-mortar retail locations in Greenwich Village and the Meatpacking District. Schedule a studio viewing appointment at the East Village Private Studio in downtown New York City. Sessions are offered for fine art purchases, commission meetings or booked artist talks and workshops.

For over ten years, Storm's studio cat, Velvet, has been a constant force in studio and stores in New York City. Not only did Velvet travel daily with the artist to the past three storefronts, working as a shop cat, but she has been a constant muse at Storm's private studios. The inspiration for The Cool Cat design and model for the designer pet apparel, Storm's spirited feline is at the heart of the artistry and business.
