The Cool People Mural

Downtown Dunedin, Florida

January 2021

At the end of 2020, Storm was commissioned by the owners of the bar, The Blur, to paint her signature wallpaper pattern of The Cool People behind their VIP lounge. The concept of The Cool People is serendipitously fitting with the authenticity of the neighborhood bar and cocktail lounge. Storm covered the indoor wall with the ascending pattern work, popularizing the motif in the downtown area. After the mural completion inside the business, Storm was commissioned by the city in. 2023 to create the surrealist mural outside the building to carry forth the theme: Age of The Cool People.

The Process

A signature of Storm Ritter, The Cool People in the "ascension" pattern is a commonplace in her portfolio and commissions. In a few hours, the black-and-white painting was executed, soundtracked by the 1980-90's party music of the club's aesthetic. The song, "Happy Shiny People" is an associated theme song for eccentric Downtown Dunedin's locals, so it was only fitting to cohere The Cool People to their environment.

Local TV Interview

An artist interview aired on Dunedin's "Art Corner" once the bar started showcasing the new addition. As this was commissioned a the start of 2021, the interview focused on the the art motif, NYC artist bio, and conversation about Storm's work with face masks in 2020, going into 2021. The Cool People Wall became a well known image in the city, with locals commissioning individual and group paintings of The Cool People on their homes.
